It looks like Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, is planning to launch new seven –seater MPV based on its tall boy WagonR sooner than expected. The emerging reprints on the web indicate that the WagonR MPV codenamed YJC is expected to make its first appearance at the Auto Expo 2016, scheduled to take place in February.
A report in AutosArena claims that the new MPV form Maruti's stable will go on sale by March this year. Previously, rumour had it that the WagonR MPV -- currently in the works -- would be launched by September 2016.
Maruti had earlier imported the WagonR MPV for the R&D purpose. According to the records of Zauba that tracks the record of India's import and export data Maruti has imported two units of new Wagon R MPV YJC to India for research and development (R&D) purpose. The YJC -- which is imported to India as CBU from Japan -- measures 3700mm in length. While one of the YJC is powered by 1,197 cc petrol engine, the second units in the Zauba list gets 1,248 cc diesel engine.
Maruti is likely to start the testing of this model in the country soon and apparently, the vendors of Maruti have already been directed to make the parts for its upcoming MPV. A little is known about other technical details about the MPV. When launched in India, the new WagonR MPV -- a sub-compact model -- is expected to take on the likes of Datsun Go+.
