It appears like Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, is all set to roll out its next AMT powered model in India soon. A new prototype of the AMT variant of Maruti's tall-boy WagonR has been spied undergoing tests in the country, suggesting that the launch could be just around the corner.
GaadiWaadi has managed to click the test mule of WagonR AMT, and from the images it looks like the Vxi variant of WagonR hatchback will get the AMT boxes. The original publisher of the latest spy shots also reveal that WagonR StingRay will also get AMT in India. If this rings true, the WagonR will become the third model to get AMT in Maruti's product line-up after Celerio and Alto K10.
In the AMT avatar of WagonR , there will not be much changes in terms of style and features except for the AMT badging at the rear. Under the hood too, Wagon R AMT will continue to draw power from the same 1.0L K-Series petrol engine, which churns out a power of 68PS and 90Nm torque. In the AMT model, the transmission will be handled by Magneti Marelli's five-speed transmission.
As for pricing, WagonR AMT is likely to be priced at a premium of Rs 35,000 on the current model. From what we hear, Maruti is likely to launch WagonR AMT in India during Diwali in November this year.
