The sales Maruti Suzuki's "blue eyed boy" Wagon R in India have crossed 15 lakh units since its launch in 2000.
Wagon R, one of the popular tall-boy design hatchbacks on Indian roads, has had amazing journey since its entry into the domestic market. The car has now touched the milestone of 15 lakh cumulative sales and the model still finds a good market in the country.
In this running year alone, the Wagon R has already crossed 93,000 units. The timely update and the facelift models of Wagon R helped the hatchback to stay in the minds of Indian auto lovers even when the competition in the market got tougher.
Sharing the delight of achieving the new milestone, Manohar Bhat, Vice President (Marketing) said "Launched in 2000, Wagon R has been amongst India's top 5 best-selling brands.
With its space, features and comfort, Wagon R has been the choice of the "smart customer" and consistently remained among India's most loved car brands."
Powered by 998cc K-series engine, which can churn out a power of 68PS @6,200rpm, torque of 90Nm/3,500rpm, Maruti Wagon R also has a CNG version in its portfolio apart from the top-of-the-line trim Wagon R Stingray.
And now the latest buzz on the internet is that Wagon R Stingray is gearing up for a makeover in the country with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) gearbox.
A recent report has said the company is working on a new AMT Wagon R, which would see the light of the day in 2015.
There have also been rumours that Wagon R's soft crossover, which was seen at Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, is also coming to the market.
