Maruti Suzuki's first compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza has become the best selling utility vehicle in the country in August. India's largest car-maker sold 9,554 units of the Vitara Brezza in August.
Vitara Brezza overtook Hyundai Creta and the Toyota Innova Crysta. Hyundai SUV found 8,450 takers, while Toyota MPV's sales stood at 8,229 units according to IndianAutosBlog. Another SUV, Ford EcoSport is the fourth best selling model with 5,248 unit sales in August 2016.
The Vitara Brezza was also the best selling UV in July with 10,232 unit sales. July sales were marked as the best month for sales of the SUV so far. Hyundai sold 7,981 units of the Creta in the domestic market in July.
Pushed by the spike in sales of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki utility vehicle sales saw a growth of 114.5 percent in August. The Indo-Japanese company sold 16,806 units of utility vehicles in August 2016, against 7,836 units sold in August 2015. The UV range of Maruti Suzuki includes the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ertiga, Grand Vitara and the Gypsy. With over 9,000 unit sales, it is clear that the compact SUV has single-handedly pushed the UV sales of Maruti Suzuki.
The Vitara Brezza currently commands over six months of waiting period and over 50,000 bookings are yet to get delivered. Powered by a 200 DDis 1248cc diesel engine that develops 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the Vitara Brezza boasts best-in-class fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl.
In the beginning of August, Maruti Suzuki hiked prices of Vitara Brezza by Rs 20,000. The variants are now priced in the range of Rs. 7.19 lakh to Rs. 9.88 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.
