Maruti Suzuki's first attempt at targeting the compact SUV segment has become a stellar success, with the company registering overwhelming booking and sales figures. As per recent reports, the Vitara Brezza compact SUV has recorded over 75,000 bookings since its launch on March 8.
According to a report in the Business Standard, Maruti Suzuki has sold close to 20,000 units of the Vitara Brezza so far. The waiting period for the compact SUV is currently in the range of seven to nine months. It has also been reported that over 50 percent of the total bookings for the Vitara Brezza is for the top-end variants. To keep the waiting period in check, Maruti Suzuki had earlier increased the annual production of Vitara Brezza to 1.2 lakh from the previous target of one lakh units per year. Latest reports say the company is mulling to further increase the production.
The Vitara Brezza took the segment by storm by registering 5,563 unit sales in March 2016. It rose to 7,832 units last month. The compact SUV was the second best-selling utility vehicle in the country, behind Hyundai Creta, in April.
Sold only with a diesel engine, the Vitara Brezza is powered by a 200 DDis 1248cc engine that develops 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The compact SUV also boasts of a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl. The Vitara Brezza is the first model of Maruti Suzuki to be designed, developed and validated in India. It is offered in LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi, ZDi+ and ZDi+ variants. Prices start at Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
