Starting from the launch of Baleno hatchback last year, Maruti Suzuki has been in top gear in terms of product offering and sales. The two recent launches of the company — the Vitara Brezza compact SUV and the Baleno premium hatchback — have come out on top in their respective segments in April.
India's largest car-maker sold 7,832 units of the Vitara Brezza in April, outselling its main rival Ford EcoSport by a big margin. Ford India managed to sell only 3,789 units of the EcoSport in the same month while Mahindra's TUV300 found just 1,928 takers in April. The Vitara Brezza in its launch month of March itself rose to the Numero position of the segment. The new compact SUV found 5,563 takers in March, and Ford India sold 4,456 units of the EcoSport.
The Baleno, launched in October 2015, became the bestseller of the segment in December 2015. The vehicle was trailing behind Hyundai Elite i20 the first three months of 2016. However, the Baleno fought back in April when the company sold 9,562 units of it, while Hyundai Elite i20 trailed with 9,400 units sold.
Both Maruti Suzuki vehicles have over 50,000 bookings as of now. Due to higher demand, the car-maker is also planning to increase production of both vehicles. According reports, the production of the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno is likely to be increased to 1.2 lakh units and 1.65 lakh per annum, respectively.
India's largest car-maker by volume, Maruti Suzuki currently has 46 percent market share in India. The company also saw a marked jump in UV sales from 15 percent to 26 percent after the Vitara Brezza's launch, reports the Financial Express. Going by the trend, Maruti Suzuki is expected to breach the 50 percent mark in market share by the end of 2016.
