Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, has introduced additional safety features - dual airbags and ABS - as optional on all variants of its popular Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan.
Maruti Swift and Dzire, the two models which has been contributing largely to the market share of the company, will now be available with safety features even in the base variants. The addition of the safety features will make the model costlier by about Rs 20,000 depending on the variant.
"Swift and DZire are two of the most popular cars in India. Both have played an instrumental role in shaping the Indian automobile industry. By offering driver and co-driver airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) across all variants of Swift and DZire, we want to further strengthen their popularity among customers," said R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, MSIL.
The move will help Maruti to strategically position its models in their respective segments. Maruti's recently-launched Baleno also comes with safety features such as ABS with EBD and dual airbags as standards across all variants. The company had also strengthened its WagonR and Stingray with additional safety features earlier this month along with the introduction of Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission aka AMT.
