If the recent reports are anything to go by, the AMT avatar of Maruti Suzuki's popular sedan Dzire will go on sale in India soon.
Maruti's Dzire sedan with AMT gearbox was spied testing on Indian roads quite a few times. Though the model was expected to make its market debut by the end of 2015, now the latest reports swirling on the web indicate that the launch will take place sometime in early 2016.
A report of GaadiWaadi claims that the Swift Dzire AMT will hit the assembly line in January, 2016 and will go on sale in the following months. Maruti will offer AGS (Auto Gear Shift) technology aka AMT only in the diesel variant of the Dzire. Maruti's popular Swift model is also expected to come equipped with AMT box in the coming months.
Debuted with the Celerio, the AMT, which is also known as Auto Gear Shift (AGS), is equipped with an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator that automatically performs clutch and shift operations. Earlier a test mule of top-of-the-line diesel (ZDi) model of Dzire was caught testing on the roads with AMT box. Under the hood, Dzire AMT is likely to get the same tried-and-tested 1,248cc DDiS diesel engine, which generates 75ps of power @4,000rpm and 190Nm @2,000rpm peak torque.
With the launch of the AMT model of Swift Dzire, Maruti is also likely to introduce safety features such as ABS and (Anti-lock Braking System) and airbags as standard across all trims.
While the style and design of Swift Dzire AMT will remain just the same as the current model except for the minor tweaks, the car should cost Rs 35,000- Rs 40,000 more than the standard variant in the Indian market.
