India's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki has forayed into the commercial vehicle segment with the launch of Super Carry on Wednesday. The first light commercial vehicle (LCV) from Maruti Suzuki will be sold only in Ludhiana, Kolkata and Ahmedabad initially and has been priced at Rs. 4.01 lakh, Rs. 4.11 and Rs. 4.03 lakh, respectively, in the three cities.
Maruti Suzuki will begin the sales of the Super Carry by the end of August. As informed by the company, the LVC will be sold through a dedicated commercial sales channel. The vehicle is powered by the 793cc, twin-cylinder diesel engine that develops 32bhp at 3500rpm and maximum torque of 75Nm at 2000rpm mated to five-speed manual transmission. The company claims that the LCV will return 22.07kmpl of mileage and has a maximum speed of 80kmph.
The commercial vehicle measures 3800mm in length, 1562mm in width, 1868mm in height and a wheelbase of 2110mm. It comes with a payload capacity of 740kg and ground clearance of 160mm. The vehicle is available in Superior White and Silky Silver colours only.
"Super Carry is designed and developed on the basis of detailed research and understanding of customer requirements. It offers best of both the worlds –power and strength as well as carrying capacity. We are confident Super Carry will enhance the profitability of our customers," said RS Kalsi, executive director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki in statement.
Maruti Suzuki has already started bookings for the Super Carry. The LCV is offered with a warranty of 2 years or 72,000km. Maruti Suzuki has invested about Rs. 300 crore towards the development of the LCV. The Super Carry will go up against Tata Ace, Mahindra Gio, Ashok Leyland Dost and Piaggio Porter in India.
