Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker posted a growth of 19.2 percent in its sales for the month of May.
The company on Monday said that the total vehicle sales for the month of May stood at 1,00,925 units as against the 84,677 units in the corresponding month last year. The domestic sales of the company zoomed to 90,560 units last month from the 77,821 units in May 2014; registering an increase of 16.4 percent. The export of the company also saw a growth of 51.2 percent to 10,365 units in May 2014, against 6,856 units in the corresponding month last year.
Maruti's mini passenger segment witnessed a dip in May, compared to last year. It posted a 7.5 percent decline in sales of its mini-car segment, which includes vehicles like M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR in May, as against 31,427 units last year. In the compact car segment, Maruti saw a growth of 53.9 percent to 26,394 units in May from 17,147 units in May 2013.
The company's Dzire sales rose to 18,953 units in last month from the 17,265 units in May 2013, recording a growth of 9.8 percent. Sales of the mid-sized sedan SX4 saw a plunge of 75.9 percent to 121 units, as against the 503 units in May last year.
Sales of utility vehicles - Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga witnessed a surge to 5,253 units in May 2014, registering 22 percent growth against 4,307 units in May 2013.
The Omni and Eeco vans of Maruti also saw a growth of 50.2 percent to 10,771 units in May, when compared to the 7,172 units in the corresponding month last year.
The company rose 2.03 percent in trade on Monday to ₹ 2315.60 on BSE after Maruti announced its sales growth for the month of May.
In April, the company witnessed a decline of 11.4 percent in India. The total vehicle sales stood at 86,196 units, as against the 97,302 units in the corresponding month last year. The domestic sales of the company witnessed a dip by 12.6 percent in the month of April 2014, as against 90,523 units in April 2013.
