The engine line-up upcoming Maruti's SX 4 S-cross has been almost confirmed with the latest reports indicating that the company has imported over 1,000 units of 1.6-litre diesel engines to India from Italy.
The folks at Team BHP managed to lay their hands on one such document, which revealed that Maruti has imported 1,500 units of a 1.6-litre diesel engine from Italy to India between December 2014 and April 2015. Going by the reports, this engine could be used in the Maruti's upcoming crossover SX4 S-Cross ― supposedly called Across ― till the company starts the local production of the same.
Although the engine line-up of Maruti Across has been closely guarded so far, the rumours that are floating on the web indicate 1.3-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel engines. The 1.6-litre diesel engine will have the capacity to churn out a power of 118bhp with a peak torque of 32kgm and the transmission is likely to come from a six-speed manual gearbox.
Previous spy shots of SX4 S-Cross aka Across have shown the model being tested in India with DDiS badges and 1.6 stickers. However, the spotted test mules were wearing the S-Cross badge, indicating that the test mule was an exported variant.
The feature list of Maruti S-Cross is likely to include projector headlamps and Daytime Running LEDs, 16-inch alloy wheels, scuff plates, black-cladding , multi-function steering wheel, SmartPlay infotainment and keyless entry.
Expected to be priced around ₹8 lakh, Maruti SX4 S- Cross will be competing against the likes of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano when launched in India by mid-2015.
