If emerging reports are anything to go by, Maruti Suzuki Ignis mini-crossover will be launched in the country this year as scheduled. The new bit of information contradicts previous reports that said the Ignis launch has been deferred to clear the backlog for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno. The upcoming crossover of Maruti has been linked to several conflicting launch dates.
The Ignis, which made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2016, is expected to be launched in the country during this festive season, even as the company has a huge pile of orders for its current hot-selling model and Maruti would not be able to accommodate a new model.
Meanwhile, CarandBike has claimed that there is no change in the launch of the Ignis in the Indian market. There are also reports that Maruti Suzuki is looking to increase the production of the Vitara Brezza and Baleno models to bring down the waiting period. Maruti Suzuki has received over 1 lakh booking for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno and the models have a waiting period of more than eight months.
The Ignis, the first compact crossover of Maruti Suzuki, is expected to be the third offering to join the Nexa line-up in India. Currently Nexa has two offerings on its floors -- the S-Cross and the Baleno.
Under the hood, the Ignis is likely to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit and the transmission is likely to be taken care of by five-speed manual gearbox. The Ignis is also expected to come with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) on both petrol and diesel engine variants. On the pricing front, the Ignis is expected to get a price tag in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.
