It looks like Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker, is doing all that is possible to make its upcoming offering the Ignis a perfect crossover in its segment. Maruti has been testing the Ignis in India for quite some time now.
A prototype of the Ignis has been spied yet again ahead of its market debut in India during the festive season this year. Caught on camera by Shifting Gears, the Ignis is believed to be going through its final rounds of tests on the Indian roads.
The Ignis will be the third offering to join Nexa line-up in India. Nexa is Maruti's premium dealership, which began its journey with the S-Cross premium crossover. Currently Nexa has two offerings on its floors -- the S-Cross and the Baleno.
Unveiled at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show last year, the Ignis made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2016. In India, the first compact crossover of Maruti Suzuki will be pitted against Mahindra KUV100.
Under the skin, the Ignis is likely to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit and the transmission is likely to be taken care of by five –speed manual gearbox and a CVT unit. There have also been rumours that the Ignis could get all-wheel drive option.
Coming to the features, the Ignis will include projector headlights, outside rear-view mirrors with turn indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear-mounted spoiler and LED headlights. The safety in the mini-crossover will be the duty of features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), and airbags.
In terms of dimensions, the Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. The vehicle comes with a wheelbase of 2,435mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm.
