Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car-maker, may have just launched its new compact SUV the Vitara Brezza in India. The car-maker is not resting easy and is already busy testing its upcoming compact crossover Ignis on the Indian roads.
The Ignis, the model that made its India debut at the Auto Expo in February, is poised to be launched during the festive season this year. The car, which is currently in its testing phase in the country, was caught on camera quite a few times. The auto lovers in the country have a pretty clear idea of what to expect from this new compact crossover from the country's largest car-maker.
The upcoming Ignis will be sold through Maruti Nexa premium dealerships in India. The Ignis will be the third model to be sold through Nexa after the S-Cross and the Baleno. First unveiled at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show last year, Maruti Suzuki Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width and 1,595mm in height. It has a ground clearance of 180mm and comes with a wheelbase of 2,435mm.
Powering the Ignis is likely to be a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. The Ignis is expected to include features such as projector headlights, outside rear-view mirrors with turn indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear mounted spoiler and LED headlights, touchscreen infotainment system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and airbags.
When launched, the Ignis will rival Mahindra KUV100 and Ford EcoSport in India and rumour also has it that the new Maruti compact crossover will get a price tag between Rs 4.8 lakh and Rs 6.8 lakh.
