Marui Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker, has reportedly pushed the launch of the Ignis crossover to next year as the company is looking to clear the pending order for its current hot selling models the Vitara Brezza compact SUV and the Baleno premium hatchback.
The Ignis, the small crossover from Maruti's stable, was scheduled to be launched in country during the festive season this year. The preparations were also underway and the Ignis was caught undergoing tests on the Indian roads countless times. Now according to a report of ET Auto, the tallboy mini crossover of Maruti is unlikely to make its market entry during this festive season and the company is likely to push the launch to 2017. Maruti has a huge backlog for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno and the company has reportedly deferred the production of the Ignis.
Maruti Suzuki has received over 1 lakh booking for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno. While the Vitara Brezza has over 40,000 booking which are yet to be served, the Baleno is also believed to have around 25,000 pending orders.
The Ignis crossover, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, is expected to be the third offering to join the Nexa line-up in India. Currently Nexa has two offerings on its floors -- the S-Cross and the Baleno.
Under the hood, the Ignis is likely to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit and the transmission is likely to be taken care of by five-speed manual gearbox. The Ignis is also expected to come with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) on both petrol and diesel engine variants.
It is the first compact crossover of Maruti Suzuki and is expected be priced in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.
