The Ignis, the compact crossover from Maruti Suzuki, has already been linked with several launch dates in India. We last heard that the launch has been pushed to 2017 as the company is facing production constraints. India's largest carmaker is currently struggling to meet the surging demand for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno.
Now contrary to the previous reports, IndiaLive today, citing sources close to the development, says that the launch of the Ignis will happen ahead of Diwali, as scheduled. However, there is no official word on the development.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Production-spec spotted undisguised in India
The Ignis has been grabbing headlines since its appearance at the Auto Expo 2016. The crossover was recently showcased at the Paris Motor Show. The Ignis is the third model to go on sale in India through Maruti's premium showroom, Nexa. Expected to be priced starting at Rs 5.5 lakh, the Ignis will take on Mahindra KUV100 in India.
Under the hood, Ignis is likely to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. Maruti is also said to be considering a 1.0 BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine for Ignis and it could also be made available with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) box.
Maruti Ignis is 3,700mm long, 1,660mm wide and 1,595mm tall. It comes with 2,435mm long wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 180mm. As for features, the Ignis is expected to get high-end Harman Kardon audio system and safety features such as ABS with EBD, airbags and hill descent control.
