As the Ignis, the mini-crossover from the house of Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car-maker is inching closer to its launch in the country, the rumour mills have started spinning stories about the estimated price tag of the model for the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Ignis will make its entry into market in the fourth quarter this year.
The latest reports on the web suggest that the prices of the Ignis are likely to start at Rs 5.5 lakh and could go all the way up to Rs 7.3 lakh. However, we have to wait until the launch of the model to get to know the exact pricing of the Ignis in the Indian market.
The Ignis will be sold through Nexa dealerships in India. Nexa, the new destination for the premium models of Maruti Suzuki currently has two models on its floors—the S-Cross and the Baleno. Although the Ignis will also join the line-up of Nexa in the country, general consensus is that the crossover would not get a price tag higher than this as it could dampen the sales.
Coming to the specifications of the Ignis, under the skin, the crossover is likely to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. We also hear that Maruti is considering 1.0 BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine for the Ignis and could also be available with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) box.
Ignis is expected to get high-end Harman Kardon audio system and safety features such as ABS with EBD, airbags and hill descent control. The mini-crossover will be pinned to rival Mahindra KUV100 in India.
