American audio and infotainment company Harman has bagged a deal with Suzuki Motor Corporation to supply infotainment unit to the car-maker's Ignis hatchback. The Ignis, with an SUV-ish stance, is set to enter the Indian market during the festive season.
The Harman infotainment system for the Ignis is expected to ensure driver safety by providing easy smartphone integration to keep drivers' eyes on the road, reports Autocar Professional. The system will support Apple CarPlay, offering Apple iPhone users various functions like making and taking calls, music playback and messaging, to be controlled through the car's display. The system is also equipped with the voice-recognition function and navigation.
Unveiled at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show last year, the Ignis debuted in India at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. The car will be sold as a premium product via Nexa dealerships. The addition of the Harman infotainment system should do justice to the premium positioning of the Ignis.
The Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width and 1,595mm in height. It has a ground clearance of 180mm and comes with a wheelbase of 2,435mm. Powering the Ignis is likely a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. The features expected in the Ignis include projector headlights, outside rear-view mirrors with turn indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear-mounted spoiler and LED headlights, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), and airbags.
The Ignis will be pitted against Mahindra KUV100 and Ford EcoSport in India. Rumours suggest Maruti Suzuki will price new model between Rs 4.8 lakh and Rs 6.8 lakh.
