As the launch of Ignis from the country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki nears, more details of the model have started emerging online. The latest tidbit is that the upcoming Ignis will not get Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) as reported earlier.
A report of AutocarIndia says that the new Ignis will be offered with continuously variable transmission (CVT). Expected to be launched during the festive season this year, the Ignis, the compact crossover, will be the third model to be sold though Nexa premium dealership of Maruti. Currently, Nexa has two models in its range -- the premium hatchback Baleno and the premium crossover S-cross.
Maruti had premiered the Ignis at the Auto Expo 2016 in February and the model has been undergoing tests on the Indian roads since then. The Ignis is 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. It gets a wheelbase of 2,435mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm. When launched in India, the Ignis will rival Mahindra KUV100 and Ford EcoSport in India.
Under the skin of the Ignis is likely to be a 1 .2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. On the safety front, expect the Ignis to pack Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and airbags. Othe features expected include projector headlights, outside rear-view mirrors with turn indicators, 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear-mounted spoiler and LED headlights and touchscreen infotainment system.
In India, the Ignis is expected to fall in the price range of Rs.4.8 lakh to Rs.6.8 lakh.
