India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki had stepped into the crossover segment last year with the launch of S-Cross. This year, the Indo-Japanese outfit is foraying to compact crossover segment. Maruti Suzuki will launch Ignis during the forthcoming festive season and latest reports indicate that it will be powered by 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine.
Maruti Suzuki had showcased Ignis as a concept at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. The company was mum about the powertrain during the show. In the following months the crossover has been rumoured with a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. However, it looks like Maruti Suzuki will employ the 1.0 BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine in Ignis, reports Financial Express.
The engine is expected to develop close to 110bhp mated to a five speed manual transmission. The diesel mill is expected to be the 1.3-litre unit with the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT).
Ignis will measure 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. The vehicle comes with a wheelbase of 2,435mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm. The crossover will also flaunt features such as LED daytime running lamps (DRLs), high ground-clearance, flared wheel arches and a wide C-pillar. It will be pitted against Mahindra KUV100 in the newly formed micro SUV category.
Ignis will be the third product to be sold via Maruti Suzuki Nexa premium dealerships. Ignis is expected to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh.
