The Ignis, the compact crossover of Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker, is still believed to be a couple of months away from its launch in India. However, the Ignis continues to be on the roads for testing and more images of the crossover have hit the web, showing the model undergoing tests in various parts of the country.
The motor buffs at GaadiWaadi have also managed to take images of the Ignis and this time the prototype was seen hiding under thick black camouflage. The Ignis has made countless appearances on the web through spy shots and leaked images before and after its debut at the Auto Expo 2016, with the last one being the model in its fully revealed avatar.
Although there are several contradicting reports about the launch of the Ignis in India, the latest we hear is that the Ignis will see the light of the day in India in early 2017. The Ignis was originally scheduled for arrival this festive season, but reports suggest that the launch has been pushed to a later date as Maruti Suzuki is facing production constraints on the current hot-selling models like the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno.
For the uninitiated, Maruti Suzuki Ignis is likely to get a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. Maruti is also said to be considering a 1.0 BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine for Ignis and it could also be made available with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) box.
Expected to be priced starting at Rs 5.5 lakh, the Ignis will take on Mahindra KUV100 in India. The Ignis is expected to features high-end Harman Kardon audio system and safety features such as ABS with EBD, airbags and hill descent control.
In India, the Ignis will be sold through Maruti Suzuki's premium showrooms – the Nexa.
