Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, has launched the AMT avatar of its popular sedan Dzire in India with a price tag of Rs 8.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Dzire AMT, the fourth AMT model from Maruti's stable, will be available in the top-end ZDi variant of DZire. The Automated Manual Transmission, which is also known as Auto Gear Shift (AGS), was first introduced in Maruti's Celerio. The clutch-less or two-pedal technology makes driving very comfortable in the heavy city traffic conditions.
Announcing the launch, RS Kalsi -- Executive Director Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited -- said, "Auto Gear Shift, a two-pedal technology, enables customers to drive with comfort and convenience, especially in congested city conditions. This convenience is available to them at an attractive price, without any compromise on fuel efficiency. Maruti Suzuki introduced the AGS technology in India with Celerio and we currently offer it in Alto K10 and WagonR also. It has been very well accepted by customers. We are delighted to now offer Auto Gear Shift technology in DZire diesel as well."
Under the hood, Dzire AMT gets the same tried-and-tested 1,248cc DDiS diesel engine, which generates 73.9bhp of power @4,000rpm and 190Nm @2,000rpm peak torque. The Dzire AMT claims to offer a mileage of 26.59kmpl, same as that of manual transmission. In terms of style and design, the new Swift Dzire AMT remains the same as the current model, except for the rear AGS badging.
