It is no secret that Maruti is readying a new compact SUV for the Indian market codenamed YBA, which will make its market debut next year. Now the latest development is that the SUV, which is rumoured to get the new Suzuki 1.5-litre diesel engine, will not get power from the new engine.

An Auto Car India report says that Suzuki's self-developed 1.5-litre diesel engine will not make it to Maruti YBA as the company continues to work on the engine to attain the fine refinement and performance. The report adds that the introduction of new 1.5-litre could be pushed back to 2018 and YBA SUV is likely to be powered by the tried and tested 1.3 litre engine sourced from Fiat.

Suzuki's new engine was rumoured to debut in Maruti's upcoming YBA. Likely to be offered in petrol and diesel engine options, the engine line-up of Maruti YBA SUV is speculated to include 1.2-litre K-Series or 1.5-litre diesel engines. Now with the latest report, the model is likely to include 1.3 litre engine instead of 1.5 litre.

The model YBA will be launched in India by March 2016 and the model is likely to borrow design cues from Suzuki iV-4 concept SUV, which was seen at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.
