Maruti Suzuki's sedan, the Ciaz, has passed another milestone by selling over 1 lakh units since its launch in 2014. The car that challenged Honda City in the over 4-metre sedan segment in the country has been fetching decent sales for the company since its launch. The sedan also overtook the Honda City in the first two months of this year.
"Ciaz started out as an outstanding product in terms of looks, features and cabin space. With introduction of Ciaz smart hybrid technology and new infotainment features it has clearly pulled ahead as the best product in its class," RS Kalsi, executive director (marketing and sales) at Maruti Suzuki, was quoted as saying by Business Standard.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz outsold Honda City in May as well. The former found 5,188 takers in May while the latter sold 3,300 units. The Ciaz clocks average monthly sales of 5,000. The company has also shipped 18,000 units of Ciaz to export markets since the launch.
Maruti retails the Ciaz in petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol unit is powered by the 1,373cc unit that develops 91bhp at 6,000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4,000rpm mated to five-speed manual transmission. It is also available with four-speed automatic transmission. The diesel unit comes equipped with a small hybrid system with 1,248cc displacement and develops 89bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. The engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki updated the diesel engine with SHVS smart hybrid system in September 2015. The Ciaz hybrid will return fuel efficiency of 28.09kmpl. Maruti Suzuki claims that Ciaz hybrid is the most fuel-efficient diesel car in India now.
