Looks like Maruti has got it all right with its new Sedan Ciaz. The Ciaz, Maruti's latest offering in the big car segment has outsold the segment front runner Honda's City in the first full month of sales.
In October, Maruti Ciaz racked up 6,345 units, where as its rival Honda City managed to clock only 5,120 units. The victory in the launch month would make Maruti happy; but it is too early to say if the Ciaz is a clear winner. However, for Honda, this could be a sign of some serious competition it is likely to face.
Honda City has been a dominant force since its take off in the Indian market. One reason for the slowdown in the sales of Honda City could be the fact that the company has stopped the production of City due to the high demand for Mobilio. Now the Japanese maker has confirmed that the City will be going into regular production from November at their Tapukara plant.
Launched on 6 October, Maruti Ciaz has been priced in the range of ₹6.99 lakh - ₹9.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is offered in both diesel and petrol engine options. Under the hood, the new Ciaz packs 1.3 litre Multijet diesel or 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine and is available in a total of ten trims- 6 petrol variants- V, V+, Z, Z(O), V+(AT) and Z AT and 4 diesel variants- V, V+, Z and Z(O). As of now the Ciaz has garnered over 17,000 bookings and the company is expecting the demand to rise in coming days.
In October, Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker posted 1.1 percent decline in its total sales and a growth of one percent in the domestic sales.
