Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker, is reportedly getting ready to update its premium sedan in India, Ciaz, with ISOFIX mounts for child seats. ISOFIX mounts will be offered as standard fitment in Ciaz, reports TeamBHP.
While Ciaz will be the first in Maruti Suzuki's range in India to get ISOFIX mounts as standard, its competitor Honda City already boasts this child safety feature. Other safety features in Maruti Suzuki Ciaz include dual airbags, rear parking sensor, seat belt pre-tensioner and ABS with EBD.
What are ISOFIX mounts
ISOFIX mounts are the car seat attachment used to fix child seat to the car's rear row. This ensures no unwanted movement of the child seat and keeps the child safe at the rear. Child seat fixed with ISOFIX mounts reduces the risk of injury.
Maruti is also said to be working on the facelifted avatar of Ciaz, which is rumoured to make its entry in 2017. Mechanically, Ciaz is expected to remain the same as the current model in its new avatar. Currently, Ciaz is powered by the 1,373cc petrol unit that develops 91bhp at 6,000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4,000rpm mated to five-speed manual transmission.
The petrol variant is also available with four-speed automatic transmission. The diesel unit comes equipped with a small hybrid system with 1,248cc displacement and develops 89bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. The engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
