Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback: Nexa's next new experience; specs, price, features [PHOTOS]

Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, pulled the wraps off its Baleno premium hatchback in India on 26 October with a price tag starting at Rs 4.99 lakh.

The Baleno, the global hatchback, is the second car to be sold though the new Nexa premium chain of dealership after the S-Cross. The India-made, new Baleno will be exported to over 100 countries, including Japan. 

Like the Maruti S-Cross, the new Baleno also gets ABS and airbags as standard across all variants. Launched in four trims - Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, Baleno is the first car in India to come with Apple Carplay.

The Maruti Baleno measures 3,995mm in length, 1,745mm in width and 1,500mm in height with a wheel base of 2,520mm. The car features 339-litres of boot space and 37-litres of fuel capacity.

Under the hood, the Maruti Baleno includes 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. While the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine is tuned to develop 83bhp and 115Nm of torque, the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill churns out 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission and the petrol engine is also available with CVT automatic gearbox.

As for fuel efficiency, the Maruti Baleno diesel is tuned to deliver 'fuel efficiency of 27.39kmpl' and the petrol unit returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.4kmpl.

The new Baleno will be available in seven body shades -- Granite grey, Solid fire red, Premium urban blue, Autumn orange, Metallic premium silver, Pearl arctic white and Ray blue.
