Maruti Suzuki's latest premium hatchback, the Baleno, has been receiving a good response from the market and the bookings have now reportedly crossed 40,000 units. The Baleno is Maruti Suzuki's contender in the premium segment, which is the domain of Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz.
The November sales report indicates that Baleno hatchback's sales has affected the sales of the Swift more than it has that of Elite i20. Maruti Suzuki sold 11,859 units of Swift in November against the 17,669 units in October. A sharp decline of 5,810 units has been registered and the car slipped from third place in October to fifth place in November in the list of top ten best-selling cars in India.
At the same time, Maruti Suzuki sold 9,074 units of Baleno in its first full month sale in November after being launched on 26 October. In comparison to the sales of Swift, the Baleno is yet to cross the 10,000 sales mark.
The Baleno did manage to outsell its main rival, the Elite i20, in November. Hyundai sold 8,264 units of Elite i20 in November, while the number was 9,150 units in October. The month-on-month decline is just 886 for Elite i20 as compared to the Swift's month-on-month loss of 5,810 units.
This number indicates that the dent is sales seriously affected Baleno's stable mate than its main rival. The trend also indicates potential Swift customers are now considering Baleno as a better option.
