Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, posted 26.9 percent growth in its total sales in August at 1,10,776 units as against 87,323 units in the corresponding month last year.
The domestic sales of the company rose to 98,304 units in August 2014 from 76,018 units in last August; registering a growth of 29.3 percent.
The sales of mini passenger car segment of Maruti, which includes vehicles like M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR are also up in August by 8.3 per percent, from 32,019 units to 34,686 units.
In the compact car segment, Maruti saw a growth of 53.2 percent to 46,759 units in August from 30,512 units the same month last year.
The outgoing mid-sized sedan SX4 sales plunged to 50 units as against 348 units in August last year. The utility vehicles - Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga sales rose to 5,491 units 2014, from 4,563 units last year. The Omni and Eeco vans of Maruti sales stood at 9,990 units as against 7,956 units, up 25.6 percent.
The export of the company also increased during August by 10.3 percent to 12,472 units against 11,305 units in the same period last year. After announcing the august sales, the shares of the Maruti hit record high on Monday to ₹2,918.65 on BSE.
Meanwhile, the company has started promoting its upcoming Ciaz sedan on Maruti website and reports also suggest that the bookings are open for Ciaz in India. Ciaz is expected to reach market in September and is likely to get power from the same 1.3 litre Multijet diesel or 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine of Ertiga.
The petrol version of Ciaz will generate 95 PS power and 130 Nm peak torque and the diesel version will produce an output of 90 PS and 200 Nm peak torque. The company has also roped in Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as the brand Ambassador.
