Maruti Suzuki's entry level car offering, Alto has become the second car in the company's portfolio to notch the sales figure of 25 Lakh units in the domestic market.
The company on Tuesday announced that the Alto has crossed 25 lakh milestone in the domestic market, following in the footsteps of Maruti's first creation 800. Maruti Alto, a car which captivated the imaginations of the middle class families in the country after Maruti 800, has been on the road since 2000.
In the fight against tough market conditions and to attain industry supremacy, the car has received upgrades and changes over the years in the domestic market. Alto 800 and Alto K10 are the result of these upgrades. What is striking is that Maruti's small car offerings are still finding takers in the country, despite the change in the mind set and the market conditions. In India, Hyundai Eon, Tata Nano and Datsun Go are the main rivals of the Alto .
"Launched in 2000, the Alto has attained the 25 lakh milestone in less than 14 years, the fastest by any brand; we are overwhelmed and humbled by its popularity," ET quoted MSI Vice President (Marketing) Manohar Bhat.
The latest news of Alto's triumph in the market has hit the web at a time, when rumours about a new Alto K10 hatchback is swirling around. Previous reports suggested that Maruti is gearing up to launch a new Alto K10 hatchback in the country by 2015.
Under the hood, the new Alto K10 is likely to pack 998cc 3 pot motor of the Celelrio, which can churn out 68 PS of max power and 90 Nm of torque. It is also speculated that that the new vehicle would feature larger and more stylish swept-back headlamps, new engine grille with chrome outline, reworked front bumper and the new rounded bonnet.
Currently, Alto is retailed at a starting price of ₹2.38 lakh and goes upto ₹3.49 lakh.
