As competition in the small car segment in India is heating up with more revvs on the horizon, Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker, is looking to give a makeover to one of the best-selling models -- the Alto 800. The Alto 800 facelift is expected to come to the Indian market soon.
The Alto 800 facelift has already made numerous appearances on the cyber space through spy shots and leaked images and now it comes in a new set of images from Auto Car India. The images give a clear idea of the changes incorporated into the mildly facelifted avatar of the Alto 800.
The Alto, which has been holding the title of the bestselling car in India for over a decade, is now in a shaky ground after the arrival of Renault Kwid. Soon, the redi-Go hatchback, the third offering of Datsun in India, will also join the race. With the arrival of the new avatar of the Alto 800, Maruti would be hopeful of staying ahead of the competition.
Speaking of the changes in the Alto 800 facelift, while the silhouette of the Alto 800 remains untouched, the small car offering of Maruti now in its new avatar gets a new front-grille with mild tweak on the front and rear bumpers. There is now place for fog lights and the facelift is said to be slightly longer than the existing model. As far as the side profile of the Alto 800 facelift is concerned, from what we understand, it remains the same as the current model.
Coming to the cabin, Maruti has added more features like additional storage space and child safety lock in the facelifted Alto 800, and there is also new fabric for the seats. Apart from this, more or less the interior of the car sticks to the same styling and features of the existing version. Maruti Alto 800 facelift will come with driver airbag as optional across all trims.
Under the hood, Maruti Alto 800 facelift will get the same 796cc three-cylinder engine, which develops 47bhp and 69Nm of torque mated to five-speed manual transmission.
