Nokia is preparing to make a grand comeback. With the relaunch of the Nokia 3310 (2017), the brand has already set the stage for its upcoming Android smartphones that are currently among the highly anticipated handsets launching this summer. Now, if a newly issued media invite in to believe, the launch of the devices – including Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 – is just two weeks away.
Amid rumours and speculation about the phones' release, Nokia Mobile took to Twitter last week to announce that the three upcoming Android smartphones are set for a global release before the end of June. However, HMD Global has already started sending out invites for an event on June 13, triggering speculation that the India launch of the devices could be just a matter of few days.
Although HMD Global earlier said that the Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 would go on sale around the world in the second quarter of this year, there was no definite timeline for their release until now. It was in May when HMD Global unveiled the three phones, along with the iconic Nokia 3310 (2017) at a special media event in New Delhi.
The Nokia 6 will come with a 5.5-inch full HD IPS LCD screen while the Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 will feature a 5.2-inch HD (1280x720p) IPS LCD screen and a 5.0-inch HD IPS LCD screen, respectively. Both Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, whereas the Nokia 3 will have Android 7.0 Nougat running the show.
On Thursday, HMD Global also reportedly confirmed that the trio would get Android O firmware update once Google releases the new OS for its OEM partners. If everything goes according to plans, the new Nokia smartphones should get the new OS update by end of August or early September.
As per the processing power, both Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 are likely to complement each other by carrying the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core CPU. The Nokia 3, on the other hand, will be powered by the 1.3GHz MediaTek (MTK 6737) quad-core chip.
When it comes to price, the Nokia 6 is expected to be priced under Rs. 20,000 while the Nokia 5 and 3 are said to be retailed in the range of sub-Rs. 15,000 and sub-Rs. 10,000, respectively.
