"Sairat" has created history and has emerged as the biggest grosser in the Marathi film industry. The romantic film, which has been receiving appreciation from celebrities, is heading towards the Rs. 50 crore mark at the box office.

Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar starrer "Sairat" has minted Rs. 41.11 crore in 11 days. This is for the first time a Marathi film has earned more than Rs. 40 crore from just its box office run.

"Marathi film #Sairat creates HISTORY... Emerges a BLOCKBUSTER... Day-wise data in next tweet...," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, adding: "Marathi film #Sairat [Week 1] ₹ 25.50 cr. [Week 2] Fri 3.84 cr, Sat 4.12 cr, Sun 4.61 cr, Mon 3.04 cr. Total: ₹ 41.11 cr. FANTABULOUS!"

Riteish Deshmukh's "Lai Bhaari," which was released in 2014, had turned out to be the biggest blockbuster Marathi movie of all time with a collection of Rs. 25 crore. However, this year's release "Natsamrat" and "Sairat" easily surpassed "Lai Bhaari" earnings.

"Sairat" has also surpassed the lifetime collection records of this year's several Bollywood films, which were released in more number of screens compared to the Marathi film. "Jai Gangaajal," "Wazir" and Sanam Re" among others had fared less than Rs. 40 crore during their theatrical run.

The romantic film was released on April 29 and has been receiving a lot of critical acclaim for its storyline and the actors' performances. Recently, Bollywood celebrities, including Aamir Khan, Ritiesh and Genelia D'Souza tweeted praising the film.

"Sairat" is director Nagraj Manjule's second film. Manjule's debut directorial "Fandry," which was released in 2014, had received the 61st National Film Award for "Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director."
