The Mangosteen fruit, which is known as Mangustan in Hindi, is titled as the "queen of tropical fruits" by American botanist and plant explorer David Fairchild. He is the founder of Purple Mangosteen, about which he mentioned in his book published in 1903 - Exploring for Plants.
Originating in Indonesia, this tropical fruit looks beautiful. Its peel is dark purple in colour and on peeling, it appears like orange. It has softly fragmented edible white flesh with a sweet and sour taste and also contains some bitter seeds.
