In yet another attack on minorities, St. Joseph Church in Mangalore was attacked by some unknown people on Tuesday night.

According to NDTV reports, the goons damaged the window panes and doors of the church though the statues inside were untouched.

This attack came into light after the church authorities noticed broken window panes on Wednesday morning and informed the police.

Amid concerns of increasing attacks on religious institutions, the attack on the Mangalorean church is likely to raise more fingers at the BJP government in the Centre for failing to protect the secular rights of the Indian citizens.

The attack comes less than a week since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that his government would do everything possible to protect all religious groups in the country and guarantee the freedom of religion to all individuals. He took this vow at a beatification ceremony of two Indians by Pope Francis.

"No religious group can incite violence... my government will ensure there is complete freedom of faith," Modi was quoted as saying at the ceremony.

Recently, many opposition groups have pointed fingers at the BJP government for its failure to safeguard the religious rights of minority groups after four churches were vandalised in Delhi.
