A 21-year-old "peeping tom" has been sentenced to one year imprisonment in Mangalore for videotaping a married woman taking shower at her house.
A judicial magistrate court in Mangalore charged Nissar under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 354(C) pertaining to voyeurism, which makes it a criminal offence to "watch a woman when she is engaged in a private act including sexual acts, like use of lavatory, or when private parts are exposed."
Apart from one year of imprisonment, the Mangalore court has asked Nissar him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000. If he fails to pay up the fine amount, Nissar will have to undergo another six months of prison term, the court announced on Saturday (23 August).

Assistant Public prosecutor Mohan Kumar told Bangalore Mirror that the incident took place on 14 September, 2013, when the married woman, a resident of Ullar, was taking shower in the bathroom attached to her bedroom.
While taking shower, she heard a mobile ringing. On turning towards the window, she saw Nissar filming her. According to the report, Nissar used to live with his uncle in the same area.
The woman cried out, but Nissar managed to flee. However, the woman's family members had seen him. The traumatised woman approached the police only after her husband, who works in the Middle East, returned on 18 September.
The report noted that a total of nine witnesses were presented before the court. The matter had come up for hearing on 24 January.
