Preview
Manchester United begin their pre-season tour of Asia in Bangkok, Thailand at the Rajamangala Stadium on Saturday. In David Moyes' first game as United manager, they take on a Thailand eleven comprised of the top players from Thai Premier League. Non-Thai players, who play in the Thailand Premier League, are also eligible to play for the all-stars which will be managed by Dr. Vichit Yamboonruang (director of the Thai Premier League), with former Thailand international Piyapong Pue-on as his assistant. Pue-on had scored 103 goals for his country.
For Manchester united, all eyes will be on David Moyes and how he handles his first game as coach of last season's Premier League champions. With the tickets for the match sold-out, the game is likely to be a spectacle for Thai football fans.
Team News
Unfortunately for Manchester United fans, stars such as Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young, Namanja Vidic and Chris Smalling are out on injuries. Robin van Persie, Shinji Kagawa, David de Gea, Antonio Valencia and Javier Hernandez will also not feature after they have been given an extended break due to international commitments in the off-season. However, the United team will feature Ryan Giggs, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Danny Welbeck and new signing Wilfred Zaha. Provided he recovers from the ankle injury that plagued his involvement in the UEFA European under-21 Championships last month, Zaha should get his first minutes as a Manchester United player. With no other strikers available, Danny Welbeck will probably play the entire 90 minutes up front.
The Singha All-Stars will be largely comprised by players from Buriram United and Muangthong United. Buriram currently tops the Thai Premier League, leading least season's defending champions Muangthong by two points.
