Manchester United continue to impress and pick up victories in the International Champions Cup, with maximum points against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday confirming them as the winners of the North American leg of this mega preseason tournament.
Louis Van Gaal's men have won all three of their games so far – 1-0 against Club America, and 3-1 each against San Jose Earthquakes and Barcelona.
One more victory and they will defend the title they won last season, but more important than that for Van Gaal, going into this game against PSG, will be ensuring his players are ready for the Premier League opener against Tottenham in ten days' time.
While Bastian Schweinsteiger saw his chances of getting integrated to the squad fully stall a bit by an injury, which kept the midfielder out of the last match, the other three new signings have impressed, with one in particular – Morgan Schneiderlin – catching the eye of the legendary Bryan Robson.
"Bastian Schweinsteiger looks like a really top player," Robson told Manchester United fans in a Facebook Q&A. "With his career and the way he is, he is absolutely quality.
"But the one who has really stood out for me in the first two games is Morgan Schneiderlin.
"He has really impressed me in the way he moves, the ways that he presses people all around the pitch and his range of passes is also really good. He always wants the ball, he is regularly dropping in between the two centre-backs, and I've been really impressed by him."
The Manchester United midfield is certainly a lot better than it was last season, and with Wayne Rooney looking comfortable in that central striking role, with Memphis Depay behind him, Van Gaal is filling in the blanks ahead of the start of the new campaign.
One of the other players looking to make a big impression in preseason, after a tepid first season with the club is Luke Shaw, and Van Gaal believes this could be the campaign where the former Southampton fullback starts to justify his huge pricetag.
"Luke Shaw is a big talent," Van Gaal was quoted by the Manchester Evening News. "He's very young so it's not so easy for him to come from Southampton to as big a club as Manchester United.
"But he has the benefit that he's an Englishman. Depay is a Dutchman and it's a different culture, a different rhythm to the game.
"So I think that it shall be the season of Luke Shaw, that I believe. I believe in him and he has to feel that and I hope he shall show it. But he's 20-years-old. How many players of that age are playing in the Premier League?"
PSG could not come away with full points in their last game – losing 6-5 in a penalty shootout to Chelsea – but the more interesting subplot in this match will be Angel Di Maria.
The Argentine failed to fly to the Manchester United training camp in the US in his scheduled time, amid transfer reports suggesting he has agreed a move to PSG. A fee is still to be agreed upon between the two clubs, but the likelihood of Di Maria joining up with the PSG players looks higher than the midfielder returning to the Manchester United camp.
Only time will tell, though, which team Di Maria plays for next season, until then there is this International Champions Cup game to add a bit more fodder to the transfer rumours.
Manchester United vs PSG Schedule: Wednesday, 29 July (8.05 pm CDT, 2 am BST, 6.30 am IST) at Soldier Field in Chicago.
