Manchester United take on Turkish side Fenerbahce in their third Europa League 2016-17 group game on Thursday at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are currently third in Group A with a win and a defeat so far, while Fenerbahce remain on the top without a defeat from their previous two games.
United come into the game at the back of a goalless draw against Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday, so expect some of the players including the likes of Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young not to play a part in the Europa League game. The game however could mark the return of leftback Luke Shaw to the side while star forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to continue dominating the Manchester United forward line.
The game also marks the return of Netherlands star forward Robin van Persie to the Old Trafford. The Dutchman plied his trade with United between 2012 and 2015, winning a Premier League title.
"It will be a special occasion and a special game for me," the Fenerbahce man told the official Manchester United website. "I know Manchester United want to be in the Champions League, but it is how it is now and for me it is a very special group in the Europa League.
"I am now playing for Fenerbahce and I want to do well for my team but of course it will be special to play 'at home' [Old Trafford] in a great stadium with great fans against a great team. It will be tough for us. United are the favourites, but you never know what will happen. In general I am looking forward to a nice evening and enjoying the whole experience," he added.
Schedule
Manchester United vs Fenerbahce is scheduled to kick off at 8:05 p.m. BST (12:35 a.m. IST [Friday], 3:05 p.m. EST) on October 20.
