Manchester United will want to banish the ghosts of Stamford Bridge when they host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho was given a horror return to his old club last weekend, when Chelsea ran rings around his current team to hand the manager his heaviest defeat in the Premier League. While Manchester United got back to winning ways by beating Manchester City in the EFL Cup in midweek, the bread and butter of the Premier League is where they need to improve.
Mourinho might have tried to take the attention away from his players by pulling the whispering-something-in-Antonio-Conte's-ear stunt at the final whistle, but what that performance showed was that this Manchester United side are still a work in progress, probably a little more than they should be.
Having spent money handsomely in the summer and brought in superstar players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba, Manchester United should really be playing a lot better than they are. The win in midweek, albeit against an understrength City side, was a start, but how consistent this team can be will be known when they play Burnley.
Sean Dyche's men, who have already beaten Liverpool this season and given Arsenal a real run for their money, will be a difficult test for Mourinho's side and it will be interesting to see how they go.
"Burnley is very difficult," Mourinho told MUTV. "Even the season they were relegated [2014/15] they were very difficult even for the big teams. This season, I know it was at home, but they beat Liverpool and Everton. So they are difficult.
"They have a certain style of play where they don't care about the style or the way they do it; they just go with everything they have and the only thing I can say is it will be a very difficult match.
"It will be very important for us if we can win, but we have to be at our maximum level and also Old Trafford must be behind us. That's not in question, though, because they always are."
