Jose Mourinho is keen to complete the signing of Miralem Pjanic from Roma as the new Manchester United manager looks to freshen up his squad ahead of the new season. Pjanic is the latest player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Manchester United already looking at the likes of Andre Gomes, John Stones and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Creativity is something Manchester United lacked under Louis Van Gaal and while that can be blamed on the manager's preference to play backward-passing possession football, the club could certainly use someone who can unlock defences with a bit of magic.
Pjanic certainly has that in him, and after a few impressive seasons with Roma, the Bosnia midfielder has been linked with two of Mourinho's former clubs – Barcelona and Chelsea. However, the new Manchester United manager is ready to beat them to Pjanic's signature, according to the Metro.
The report suggests Pjanic will cost somewhere around £29-£30 million, which should not be a problem for Manchester United.
Meanwhile, former Red Devils striker Dwight Yorke believes only four players are safe from the Mourinho axe next season. With Louis Van Gaal gone and the Portuguese taking over, Yorke believes the only players guaranteed a place in Mourinho's lineup next season are Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and David De Gea.
Yorke also thinks Juan Mata's future at Manchester United could be over, considering Mourinho sold him to the Old Trafford club when he was Chelsea manager, with several set to join the Spain midfielder in making that exit.
"We obviously know about Mata and Jose and that hasn't changed and there will be a few players under the microscope who aren't Manchester United players who somehow got in there," Yorke told 888Sport. "They've underperformed and no-one is safe apart from De Gea, Martial, Rashford and Rooney. Everyone in between will be looking over their shoulders."
With several new faces expected to come in, there could be quite a few changes in the United squad before the fresh season begins in August.
