Manchester United are reportedly planning a double swoop for Paris Saint Germain stars Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva as Louis van Gaal looks to further reinforce his squad this summer.
Although United spent in excess of £150 million on transfers of Angel di Maria, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo in 2014, Van Gaal reportedly feels that they need to spend along the same lines this summer if they want to do well next season.
"I don't have any doubt that players are coming to Manchester United," Van Gaal had said earlier, according to the Mirror, when asked whether his side would be busy in the transfer market this summer.
As a result, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already identified potential transfer targets, and according to the Daily Mirror, PSG duo Cavani and Silva are at the top of his summer shopping list.
It is believed that the Red Devils are looking to make a combined £57 million bid for both the players, although PSG are probably going to be looking for as much higher bid than that.
United have had Cavani on their radar for more than a year now, with him being one of the main targets of former manager David Moyes.
Although they have been unsuccessful in their attempts to bring the Uruguayan to Old Trafford up till now, they have a very good chance to land Cavani this season now that they are most likely to be back on the Champions League next season.
Van Gaal, apart from Cavani, is also reportedly interested in PSG centre-back Silva, who has been very impressive since joining from AC Milan for a reported €42 million in 2012.
The Dutchman reportedly sees the 30-year-old Brazilian as a perfect signing if they are not able to land their primary defensive target Mats Hummel to leave Borussia Dortmund and join Old Trafford this summer.
A bid of £57 million for both the players will probably not be enough, and due to this reason, Woodward is reportedly willing to include the likes of Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Rafael and Nani into the deal.
