Manchester United may not have to wait long enough to get their hands on Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo once again. Well, not exactly the former Red Devils legend, but someone who is being touted as "the next Cristiano Ronaldo".
Goncalo Guedes, the 19-year-old Benfica sensation, is reportedly on the radar of the 20-time English league winners, and according to British newspaper The Independent, United scouts are impressed with the teenage winger's performance.
Guedes earned his first cap for the Portugal senior national side in November 2015. He is an out-and-out winger, something Cristiano started out as at the Old Trafford after signing with the Premier League giants in the summer of 2003 for a fee of £12.24 million from Sporting Lisbon.
Will Guedes go the same way? Are we about to witness history repeating itself if the player finally moves to the Theatre of Dreams? Only time will tell.
Ed Woodward and Co have the entire January to decide on that, and possibly launch a bid on the Portuguese wunderkind, who has a contract with Benfica until the summer of 2021.
Guedes has a total of six assists and three goals in the Portuguese top-flight from a total of 18 appearances. He also has a goal from six appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
It remains to be seen whether Louis van Gaal is willing to spend cash on a winger this transfer window. The Dutch coach has made it clear Manchester United are lacking on forwards, and that is the area where he will add players.
However, The Express has claimed LvG is also looking at strengthening the wide areas.
