Manchester United are reportedly considering a serious move for Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar in January to solve their defensive injury woes.
The Red Devils, who have had a poor start to the 2014/15 campaign, managing only three wins in their opening ten Premier League fixtures, have been facing a lot of defensive problems this season.
Following the departures of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has failed to find the right mix at the back despite experimenting with a lot of combinations this season.
On top of that, United have also struggled with a lot of injuries, with many of their players, especially defenders, spending some time on the sidelines this season.
Now with the latest injury blow of Marcos Rojo, who has been ruled out for three months after dislocating his shoulder during the Manchester derby, United are desperate to sign a new defender as they attempt to sort out their defensive crisis in January.
And according to the Daily Mirror, van Gaal is looking to make a move for Vlaar in the winter transfer window.
Vlaar, who has already worked under the former Bayern Munich boss in the Netherlands national team, would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford as he familiar with the Dutchman's style of play and philosophy.
Van Gaal was reportedly keen to sign Vlaar, who was one of the key players of the Netherlands side that finished third in the 2014 World Cup, in the summer, but the Villans had refused to now.
However, now United are certain that they can secure the 29-year-old's signature in January as he is currently on the last year of his contract at Villa Park.
Earlier there were reports of Villa demanding £12 million for the former Feyenoord defender, but van Gaal is reportedly confident of securing the Dutchman's signature at a cut down price.
Arsenal, who had a bid for Vlaar rejected on the transfer deadline day this summer, are also expected to compete for the Dutchman's signature in January even though the defender is believed to be interested in teaming up with van Gaal at Old Trafford.
