Manchester United manager David Moyes has assured fans that the club are on the prowl for the world's best talent. Worryingly for fans, United have not been particularly active so far in the transfer market. Moyes, however, was keen to point out that the club are working tirelessly to bring the 'best players in the world' to Old Trafford.
"Don't be kidded by the lack of activity," Moyes told talkSPORT. "Take it from me, we are working hard behind the scenes to try and improve the squad. The big thing is that Manchester United will always be in for the best players in the world."
Sir Alex Ferguson's successor also re-affirmed his desire to bring players from the Manchester United academy into the first team.
"We are also very interested in developing our own players and bringing in potential players for the future," he said. "We are working on that just now."
One player who has signed for United is Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha. At only 20 years old, Zaha has the potential to cement his place in the first team for years to come. Moyes confirmed that the player will be part of United's pre-season tour.
"He will travel with us on the tour," Moyes said. "He has only been with us for two days but I will take him away, see how he goes and have a look. This club has a great record of putting young players in the team. Hopefully Wilfried can be one of them."
When asked about the future of striker Wayne Rooney, the former Everton manager has once again insisted that the player is not for sale. "The club have already stated Wayne is not for sale," Moyes explained. "I have met Wayne two, three, four times."
"A lot has been said about myself and Wayne over the years but we have a really good relationship," he continued. "He came to my house, I have been to his recently to have a chat. Also he is here every day."
The United manager pointed out that Rooney has been as committed as ever in training.
"I will say he is training great," said Moyes. "They are telling me it is the best shape they have seen him in for a long time. From that point of view I am taking it as a positive and I am going to try and get the best Wayne Rooney I possibly can."
