Manchester United's David De Gea is reportedly close to agreeing to a new deal at Old Trafford that will see his wages rise to £140,000-a-week, making him one of the highest paid goalkeepers in the world.
The 24-year-old Spaniard's future has been under a lot of speculation this season, with many reports linking him with a move to European Champions Real Madrid.
Although the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, who has been in excellent form this season, has dismissed all these speculations, insisting that he is happy at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are reportedly afraid that De Gea may be changing his mind if the Los Blancos come up with a lucrative offer.
Due to this reason, United are themselves reportedly looking to offer the Spaniard, whose current at Old Trafford expires in 18 months, a lucrative offer so he will not be tempted to join other clubs.
According to the Daily Star, the Red Devils are in talks with De Gea's agent Jorge Mendes over a potential deal that will see his wages double from £70,000 to £140,000 per week.
Meanwhile, United's latest signing Victor Valdes claims that De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal confirmed that the former Barcelona man will be the second choice goalkeeper at United after De Gea.
But the 32-year-old has no problems playing second fiddle to his compatriot as he believes that De Gea is the "best in the world"
"I think now, in the moment, David is the best goalkeeper in the world," Valdes told MUTV. "His performance every day and in every game shows everybody that his level is very high. He has had a great year and it is very nice. Now, I think he is the best goalkeeper in the world."
Speaking about his own role at the club, Valdes says that he has come to Old Trafford to "help everybody", and play well when given a chance.
"I am here to help everybody," he added. "Always in my career, I have played to help my team-mates, to help my coach and to help everybody. I am a part of the team and I am not a problem, I am just a part of the team. If I play a game, I am always thinking about playing well and to help the other team-mates, to help them to win the match."
