Four games are what Louis Van Gaal has to ensure Manchester United go into the new season in tip-top shape, with the formation secure and with confidence running high.
The International Champions Cup will play host to Manchester United and their preseason campaign yet again, and Van Gaal, having seen four big players in Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin already come in to strengthen the squad, will be keen to integrate the new faces and get them comfortable with the setup as soon as possible.
Playing matches is always the best way to build up fitness, and Manchester United, being one of the biggest draws in the USA, will want to make the most of their four preseason games in the International Champions Cup.
Whether the four new signings play in the first match against Club America or not remains to be seen, but Van Gaal is confident they can make the desired impact come the new season, where Manchester United will be expected to compete for the Premier League title.
"I'm very happy because, in my opinion, they are very good players," Van Gaal was quoted by the club's official website. "That's why we have bought them.
"I'm very happy they're here before the tour -- we can prepare all the team elements with them. There's also Memphis Depay and now the three new signings. It's much better than last year.
"Our selection was not in balance [last season]. I wanted balance with my midfielders, so you could expect that I should buy two holding midfielders. Morgan is the type who I think can play in our system and in our philosophy.
"Manchester United only buy players who can make a contribution to that. We are not buying for buying's sake. Every player who is sitting here can make a contribution."
Another one happy with the quality of the signings that have come in already is the club captain Wayne Rooney, who believes Manchester United will do much better this season, compared to the last two.
"Bastian is a very experienced player who has won everything in the game and it's great that he has chosen to join us and left a team like Bayern Munich to come here," Rooney told MUTV. "And Morgan as well – it's great to see Bastian, him, Matteo and Memphis all come in and give the squad a boost.
"It's exciting times and I'm sure over the next week or two it'll be great for us to get some training sessions in and get to know each other's games.
"Bastian speaks very good English so that's a boost for the squad, too. He's a fantastic player, he's shown that over the years and it's great that we've got him and I'm sure he'll be a good player for us.
"We had the day we first flew out when we first met Bastian and Morgan and they've settled in as well as they can do in a couple of days. It's great to have them with us."
