Scottish giants Celtic are already eliminated from the UEFA Champions League this season and are also not in a good position to make it to the Europa League stage. They do not have a single win from their last five games from Group C, but nevertheless, every football team wants to exit on a high note.
The Celts have a really hard challenge to fulfil their aim, however. They take on Premier League giants Manchester City on Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium. Not an easy challenge by any means!
Man City do come into the game at the back of demoralising victory against Antonio Conte's Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend, which also saw red cards being shown to Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho, but they are the favourites by a huge margin.
Aguero's appearance in the match is unsure, meanwhile. The Argentine football star is suspended from the Premier League until the end of the calendar year but none of his Champions League games get affected. Still, Pep Guardiola is undecided whether to field Aguero and not risk him an injury.
"If Sergio is going to play or not, I am going to decide today or tomorrow," Guardiola said in the pre-match presser on Monday. "I don't know at the moment. There will be changes, definitely. I am so happy to give minutes to people who deserve to play and who did not play in the last games."
Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, is relishing to play against the Premier League side and he has also mentioned that being grouped alongside teams like Man City and Barcelona, it was always a difficult challenge to qualify.
"For us it's a great game – we've only been together six months and to develop we need this type of game," mentioned Rodgers. "We knew it was going to be tough, we had to be at our maximum in every game to get anything. The teams above us have huge quality in terms of where they are at and finances. It is a huge gulf but we want to be competitive, and that was going to be the challenge."
From Group C of Champions League 2016-17, Barcelona lead the standings, while Man City come in second.
Schedule
Man City vs Celtic is set to kick off at 1:15 am IST (Wednesday) [7:45 pm GMT, 2:45 pm EST] on December 6.
