Arsenal travel to Manchester City this weekend in what could prove to be one of the toughest fixtures for both teams so far this season. Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from a shock 2-1 away defeat at the hands of Everton in midweek, while Pep Guardiola's side will be looking to build on their 2-0 win over Watford, after a few disappointing results.
In the last five years, Manchester City have defeated Arsenal twice, drawn twice and lost just one game at the Etihad in the Premier League.
Here is a head to head analysis of the last five matches between the two teams.
1. Manchester City 1-0 Arsenal (2011)
Arsenal lost the match thanks to a strike from David Silva. Despite Manchester City getting the win Arsenal were never out of the game. Manchester City had most of the ball and Arsenal were happy to sit back and absorb the pressure and move forward on the counter-attack with the pace of Theo Walcott and Gervinho. Arsenal could have levelled the score towards the end of the game with a number of chances, but the City No, 1 keeper at the time -- Joe Hart -- was able to contain the Arsenal attackers.
2. Manchester City 1-1 Arsenal (2012)
Goals from Joleon Lescott and Laurent Koscielny at the end of either half resulted in a draw. Arsenal had a lot of injury problems leading up to this match with the likes of Vito Mannone, Carl Jenkinson and Abu Diaby coming into the squad. Despite the Gunners dominating the first half they went a goal down due to a defensive error. Arsenal could have won the game at the end but Gervinho fired his shot rashly over the bar.
3. Manchester City 6-3 Arsenal (2013)
This was one of Arsenals worst defeats at the hands of Manchester City. Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, Fernandinho, David Silva and Yaya Toure were on target for Manchester City, while Theo Walcott came back from an injury to score two goals as Per Mertesacker scored late on for the Gunners.
4. Manchester City 0-2 Arsenal (2015)
Arsenal's Spanish maestro Santi Cazorla stole the show as he scored the opener and set up Olivier Giroud for the winning goal. Given Arsenal's record against Manchester City in previous matches they were once again expected to lose this game, but they proved their critics wrong. This was Manchester City's first loss in 15 matches. This was a huge statement of intent from Arsenal that they can challenge the top teams in the Premier League.
5. Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal (2016)
Goals from Sergio Aguero and Olivier Giroud in the first half followed by goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Alexis Sanchez in the second half saw the match end in a draw. The game was evenly contested throughout, but Manchester City had the chance to win it late, as Wilfried Bony's strike hit the crossbar. Arsenal lost Danny Welbeck to an injury in this match.
Manchester City have the upper hand going into the match on Sunday, but given as to how Arsenal have performed at the Etihad stadium in their last two matches, there is a cause for concern for everyone involved with City.
