A Ludhiana-based man and his mother have been arrested following accusations that they killed his wife because she repeatedly requested him to teach her how to ride a two-wheeler.
What's worse is that the man – identified as 20-year-old Arjun Kumar – reportedly tried to stage the scene like that of a suicide after strangling his 19-year-old wife Karina Devi to death.
The arrests came after Karina's aunt Chanda Devi – with whom she had been living since childhood – lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
The complaint
According to the complaint filed by Chanda Devi with the local police, she had bought a scooter recently and was using it regularly.
Karina, on seeing her aunt's two-wheeler, reportedly asked her husband to buy her one as well and teach her how to ride it. However, he refused her each time she asked.
Chanda Devi came to know on August 29 that Karina Devi had died. This prompted her to lodge the police complaint, in which she named both Arjun and her mother Manju Devi.
Love gone sour
Chanda Devi told the police in her complaint that although Arjun and Kirana Devi had had a love marriage, his mother Manju Devi did not like her daughter-in-law.
She said this strained the relationship between the two women in Arjun's life from the day he and Karina Devi got married one and a half years ago.
Arjun, it may be noted, had initially tried to pass off Karina's death as a suicide to the police. The cops, however, probed the matter – especially after Chanda Devi's complaint – and found that the entire thing was staged. It was then that they arrested Arjun and Manju Devi.
